Friday, July 24 was Supervisor Kochanny’s last day. The Board has 45 days to replace him. The Township has not received any written applications but have had several people verbally express interest: John Ferguson, Pat Kita and Chuck Center. The need to have the position filled was discussed.
Public Comment: Chuck Center stated that he feels he is a logical candidate, with 8 years’ experience in the position along with many more on the board. He proposed choosing a deputy supervisor to allow training for a possible future Supervisor. Mitts Lee spoke, feels that Chuck Center would be a good candidate due to his past experience in the position. Maureen LaBlance feels that it is a good idea to have a deputy supervisor. Sherri Sproul spoke encouraging Dave Christianson to take the position as he is the current deputy supervisor (Mr. Christianson respectfully declined) Margo Johnson stated support of Mitts Lee and Maureen LaBlance’s statement and is in favor of also having a deputy supervisor. Vane Smith stated that he feels the position should be posted and allow others a chance to apply and make a decision based on the qualifications. Also likes the deputy supervisor idea. John Haggard agreed with Vane Smith. Feels vacancy should be published and applications accepted.
Kate Stewart stated that Pat Kita has expressed interest in the position to her and that he would submit his CV soon. Williams expressed difficulty in having someone new step in as it is a position only available until the next election in November, 2022. She feels that Chuck Center will be a favorable choice as he can step in and help regroup due to his past experience as Supervisor. Williams made the Motion, with Ulrich supporting, to appointment Chuck Center as Supervisor until the next election. Witherspoon, Williams and Ulrich supporting, with Stewart against. Motion carries. (M-46-21)
Public Comment: Brett Binkley stated that he would like to see more transparency within the Township and would like the Township to have resume the zoom meetings to have more involvement with the community.
Personnel Issues: Discussed tabling this matter for the next meeting. Williams made the Motion, with Stewart supporting, to table the personnel issues on current agenda to a future meeting. All in favor. Motion carried. (M-47-21)
Public Comment: Mitts Lee feels the right decision was made.
The Meeting adjourned at 10:36pm
