Township Board Meetings
The Charlevoix Township Board meets the second Monday of each month except February. There are no meetings in February. Meetings begin at 7 p.m.
The Charlevoix Township Planning Commission usually meets at 7 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month, except February when there is no meeting OR if there are no agenda items.
Minutes should be available before the next meeting date for the township board or planning commission.
Aaron Nordman of PEI gave an overview of the water department. Continuing with well rotation All wells, except 2 on the north side, are on rotation. Clyde Johnson of Gosling & Czubak discussed the water department audit. He reviewed water department records and met with Randy Holecheck and Performance Engineers. He discussed the need for better record keeping to ensure the water system is being operated and cared for correctly. Fire department report was given. Fire Chief Thorp discussed the need for classes in the International Fire Code; Discussed need for replacement of turnout gear, which needs to be replaced every 10 years. Applying for grant to cover a portion of the cost of the turnout gear. Also discussed need to clear snow from fire hydrants.
Aaron Nordman presented the Board with a proposal from Performance Engineering (PE) offering backup water system operations. PE would provide support to the Township when Water Department Supervisor was not available and would offer additional manpower, emergency, and engineering resources as needed. Proposed signage, which would direct traffic to the Lake Michigan boat launch and to the Boulder Park "Mushroom Houses," was submitted to the Township by John Campbell. The Board discussed the need for the signage, which would cost approximately $1,550, and the matter was tabled.
Ulrich distributed to the PC a copy of the Krist Oil site plan with landscaping as previously approved. He indicated that none of the landscaping has been accomplished yet.
